Q:

What is the 'Pledged Amount' that is showing up on my available checking balance online?

A:

In the past, Visa transactions may not have cleared your account for 3 days after we had given the authorization, making it possible for the funds to be depleted before the transaction posted to your account.

Now when you use your Debit card as a Credit card (without your PIN number) the merchant obtains an authorization from us okaying the purchase. Once that authorization is given the funds are moved out of your available balance and put in the pledged amount. When the purchase comes through, it will take the place of the pledge. Visa transactions are now clearing in what we call "real time" , just like the Debit transactions. If you add your available balance and the pledged amount together it will equal your account balance.

Q:

I would like to do my taxes online. Does Deseret First offer Turbo Tax or some type of tax software for this purpose?

A:

Yes we do! Each tax season (December to April), we put a TurboTax link. You may file your taxes online using this link. When you are finished you may also have your tax refund (if applicable) directly deposited into your account. Deseret First's routing number is 324078909.

Q:

What is Member PrivilegeSM Overdraft?

A:

Member Privilege (MP) is an overdraft service that we are now automatically providing to all of our checking accounts. It will not replace your current overdraft protection (if applicable), but will be an addition to that protection. Normally, when you write a check and do not have sufficient funds to cover, we will assess a $22 Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee and return the check to the merchant, who will most likely charge additional fees. Now, when a check comes through without sufficient funds, we will honor the check up to the MP amount (currently $600), plus our normal $22 NSF fee, and we will not send the check back to the merchant, which will save you money and embarrassment.

Before your MP overdraft is ever used, we will first try to take funds from your checking account and all other share accounts that you have authorized in your draft path, including your existing overdraft limit, if applicable. After exhausting those funds, we will then use your MP overdraft to cover the check, as long as the check amount, plus our $22 NSF fee is within the MP limit of $600.

You will have 30 days from the date of the overdraft to deposit sufficient funds to cover the overdraft amount.
