Our Privacy Pledge
At Deseret First Credit Union, we respect the privacy of our members. We recognize the importance of our responsibility in protecting our members' information and will protect the nonpublic personal and financial information that you have entrusted to us. This notice describes the privacy policy and practices followed by the Credit Union and our affiliate.

Member Information We Collect
The Credit Union collects only relevant member information as the law allows or requires us to collect in order to establish and maintain your account and services. We may collect personal information about you, which is "nonpublic." The nonpublic information we collect varies depending on the accounts and services you request and use. We collect information about you from the following sources:

  • Application information: We retain personal information we receive from you on any application you provide for a deposit account, EFT service, ATM Cash Cards, VISA Cards and VISA Check (debit) Cards, consumer and real estate loans. Application information includes: name, address, social security number, and credit history.
  • Your Transactions: Any time you make a transaction on one of your accounts, including ATM or card transactions, loan advances, transactions through Advantage Internet Banking™, over the phone or at a branch we retain the transaction information. This includes: your member/account number, the date, amount, and location of the transaction.
  • Credit Reports: When we evaluate your application for an account or service, we may request a credit report about you from a consumer reporting agency. We retain the personal and credit history information about you and we may use it to evaluate future account service requests.
  • Online: We obtain information online when you visit our Internet site, www.dfcu.com. This includes retaining information you provide us on any online application, Online banking transaction or information you send to us by e-mail.

Our Confidentiality and Security Safeguards
We maintain strict policies and security controls to assure that your nonpublic personal information in our computer systems and files is protected.

  • Employee Access: Credit Union employees do have access to your information in order to provide service to you. However, our employees' access is restricted to their need to know such information or as necessary to conduct a transaction or respond to your inquiries. All employees are trained to respect member privacy. No one except our employees has access to the Credit Union computer system and records storage.
  • Internet Security: Deseret First Credit Union uses the latest technology to protect your account information from exposure to unauthorized persons. Below are some of the components of this security system:
    • An account number and password are required to access the system.
    • 128-bit encryption scrambles your transmissions when crossing the Internet.
    • After entering a password incorrectly five times, access to an account is blocked.

    VeriSign, the recognized leader in Internet security, allows you to see the security features of the Advantage Internet Banking™ program before you use it.
    You are responsible for protecting the secrecy of your password in accordance with the terms contained in your Membership Account Agreement. We recommend you not store secured pages in your cache or leave your computer unattended while you are logged into Advantage Internet Banking ™.

Our Sharing of Member Information
In order to provide financial services to you, we share certain information about you with our affiliates and third party service providers. However, we limit any information sharing to the extent necessary to service your account. If we share your information, it is with the goal of bringing you quality services, more choices, and greater convenience. Information we may have about former members is generally only shared or disclosed if required to enforce or administer an account or as required by law.

  • Parties who receive information from us: We may disclose nonpublic personal information about you to our wholly owned affiliate, Deseret First Financial Services, Inc., who provides financial services including insurance, stock/security brokers and Member Financial Services. We may share the following information with our affiliate so they can serve you more efficiently:
    • Member information (name, address, member/account number)
    • Account information (type of accounts, account balances, transaction history)

    Because we maintain management control over our affiliate, you can expect our affiliate to maintain the same privacy standards as the Credit Union.
  • Sharing Information with Third Party Service Providers: In order for us to conduct our operations, including servicing your account or processing your transactions, we need to share information with our service providers, including the following: data processing companies, financial and marketing consultants, check, ATM and other payment processing companies, payment networks, loan service providers, insurance companies, collection agencies, and credit reporting agencies. These service providers act on our behalf and have agreed in writing to keep the information we provide to them confidential. We share the following specific services provided:
    • Member information (name, address, member/account number)
    • Account information (type of accounts, account balances, transaction history)
    • Transaction information (dates, amounts, locations and type of transactions)

    The Credit Union does not sell or share any member information with Nonaffiliated third party marketers offering their products and services. While we may offer financial products and services of our affiliate(s) or third parties, we control the member information used to make such offers.

  • Sharing Information as legally Required or Permitted: We may share any nonpublic personal information of yours in response to a lawful request issued by a court, government agency, or regulatory authority or as permitted by law in order to administer or enforce your account. We may also share our experience information about you with credit bureaus. Our reporting to credit bureaus is governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which affords you the right to make sure that your credit bureau reports are accurate.
  • Protecting Children's Information Privacy: The online financial services offered through the Credit Union's Internet site are not designed for or directed toward children under age 13. We do not knowingly solicit or collect data from children and we do not knowingly market to children online. We recognize that protecting children's identities and online privacy is important and that responsibility rests with us and with parents.
How to Opt Out or Stop Certain Disclosures About You

If you prefer that we do not disclose nonpublic personal information about you to nonaffiliated third parties, you may opt out of those disclosures, that is, you may direct us not to make those disclosures (other than disclosures permitted by law). If you wish to opt out of disclosures to nonaffiliated third parties, you may select one of the following:

You may opt out of these disclosures at any time. Once we receive your request, we have a reasonable amount of time to stop the disclosures. You may always contact us for assistance if you wish to later revoke your opt out election.

Note that this opt out, by law, will not apply to disclosures that are legally permitted or disclosures we make to companies that perform services on our behalf or to other financial institutions which we endorse and that will have joint marketing agreements with us.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

Deseret First Credit Union and Deseret First Financial Services, Inc. are committed to protecting the privacy of its members and customers. You can help by following these simple guidelines:

  • Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit card which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.
  • Keep your information current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
