Doug Martin – Chair

Doug Martin has served on the Deseret First Credit Union Board of Directors for four years. He served as Vice Chair for the last two years, and he has also served on the ALM, Compensation and Strategic Planning committees during his tenure. He serves as the Director of Treasury Services for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this position, he is the treasurer of the global organization and is responsible for the overall working capital operations of the Church.

Randy Ploeger – Vice Chair

Randy Ploeger has served Deseret First Credit Union for 24 years; 9 years as a member of the Supervisory Committee and 15 years as a member of the Board of Directors sitting on various committees throughout his tenure. Randy is employed by the Church and is currently working in the Human Resource department. Prior to Church employment, he worked for several years at a local savings and loan and credit union. He earned a B.S. in Accounting and Business Management from BYU and an MBA from the University of Utah.

Susan Rather – Secretary

Susan Clayton Rather was first elected to the Deseret First Credit Union Board of Directors in 2007. She has served as Vice Chair and Secretary, and on several committees. She was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the newly-established Deseret First Charitable Foundation. Susan is group leader of the Utah chapter of the Global Women’s Leadership Network, a program of the World Council of Credit Unions. She retired from Church employment in 2015 and began serving as Refugee Program Specialist with LDS Charities. Her academic background includes having earned a doctoral degree in education.

Allan Gunnerson

Allan Gunnerson has served on the Deseret First Board of Directors since 2001 and was re-elected to the board this year. He has chaired the board and has worked on various committees. Allan is retired from the Church Educational System where he served in various teaching and administrative positions, most recently as director of the institutes of religion at the University of Utah and LDS Business College. He is currently involved in other professional endeavors. His education includes a doctorate degree in college and university administration.

Spencer Walker

Spencer Walker joined DFCU in 2006 and spent 7 years in financial strategic planning and member relations roles.

He earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Utah and currently works in that university’s department of Technology & Venture Commercialization. Spencer collaborates with inventors, entrepreneurs and investors to identify and develop digital assets. In this role, Spencer aims not only to deliver a financial return to the university but also to impact the community in a positive way.

In 2016, Spencer accepted an adjunct teaching position at LDS Business College and initiated a student investment program called BeeFUNDED. This program blends hands-on education with elements of crowdfunding and live pitch events (think Kickstarter meets Shark Tank) to launch student businesses.

Spencer embraces the principles of financial independence and well-being captured in Deseret First’s mission statement. He actively promotes self-reliance through his LDS Church callings and community appointments.

Vance Huntley

Vance Huntley was elected to the board this year, 2017! He is the Audit Manager for Intermountain Power Agency (IPA). Prior to his employment at IPA, he was an Internal Auditor with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chief Financial Officer with Xcel Fitness, and Audit Manager with Deloitte & Touche, LLP. Vance has volunteered as a member of Deseret First Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee since 2008, and was serving as chairman of that committee. He enjoyed the opportunity to serve on the Supervisory Committee and work with the DFCU Board and Management on such issues as risk analysis, financial stability, and improving the internal audit function.Vance holds a Masters of Accounting/Information Systems degree from Brigham Young University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He lives in Davis County with his wife and five children and loves any opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. As a member of DFCU, Vance believes strongly in the benefits it can provide to its members and their families. For instance, the Missionary Savings Account has been valuable to his family with one missionary currently serving and four future potential missionaries. He will strive to ensure DFCU continues to offer the services that will benefit all its members and their variety of financial needs.

Kai Hintze

Kai Hintze was elected again to the board of directors this year! Kai is an assistant director for the CES Global Education Initiative in the Church Education System department at Church headquarters.  His academic background includes earning a masters degree in business administration.  He has worked and lived in five countries in Latin America as an expatriate for the Church.

He was elected to the Deseret First Board of Directors in 2011.  He served on several board committees until early 2013 when he was called to serve an LDS mission to Central America.  He enjoyed his time serving all stakeholders of the credit union.

Kai is honored to again represent the credit union membership and professional staff of the credit union as a board member.  He has had many training and leadership opportunities during his career to embrace the broadest scope of our community.  He will listen to all concerns and ideas from the members and represent them to the board, while at the same time focusing on sound and safe financial practices to protect the credit union and its members.
